Global Action week

Global Action Week is a worldwide annual campaign organized by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) to raise awareness of the importance of Education for All.

UNESCO actively supports the campaign by organizing activities in its Headquarters and Field Offices, mobilizing networks and encouraging Ministers of Education and all EFA partners to participate.

Under the slogan "Every Child Needs a Teacher! Trained Teachers for All", Global Action Week 2013 will focus on the need for 1.7 million trained teachers to reach universal primary education by 2015. Teacher education is required if the quality of teaching and learning should be improved. Goal 6 of the six Education for All (EFA) Goals calls for more and better trained teachers:

"Improving all aspects of the quality of education and ensuring excellence of all so that recognized and measurable learning outcomes are achieved by all, especially in literacy, numeracy and essential life skills".

What if learning was about knowledge and also about doing, being, interacting with others and changing the world?

What if formal learning was enjoyable, hands-on and relevant to life outside school while addressing the problems of our world?

What if education systems prepared learners to become responsible citizens, recognize and solve local problems...

Then we would be educating for a more sustainable future
